I love designing for proboards, probably since that's what I'm used to. But Xenforo is also very easy as well. Right now I'm working on a smf theme and I have to say I love the software but pain to design on it.

XenForo is no question the easiest in designing. I messed around with a demo once and I loved the admin panel or whatever they call it on XenForo. I have tried designing on phpBB, but I have never been able to get into it. It's too hard. I'm happy designing on ProBoards right now anyways.

I was thinking about buying a xenforo license.

Xenforo is a great but I wasn't impressed by it, probably why I sold mine. It has some nice features but nothing worth $140.

Yeah, If I'm going to spend that much money, I'd use that money to buy a domain, hosting, and whatever is left, I'd buy advertisement spots and activity boosts for the forum. Might even be able to buy a custom theme from a designer that isn't well-known yet.

For me it's proboards and PhpBB skins, they are both easy to design.

I agree phpbb isn't hard at all. Once you figure out the css and images.

Css is the hard aspect of phpbb forums, but once you get the hang of that, the rest is a walk in the park.

I find Proboards to be kind of fun at times. It gives a lot of limitations and the challenge is to come up with ingenius ways around the limitations. MyBB is my choice when it comes to hosting my own forum/site.

Based on my experiences, I have enjoyed designing on MyBB a lot more than phpBB. phpBB is kind of annoying, but the possibilities are endless. MyBB is a bit easier and the results seem to usually be better. I don't know why, but designs always seem to look better on a MyBB forum compared to a phpBB forum. Maybe that's just me, but that's what I have noticed these past couple years.

Xenforo, to be honest, is almost nothing compared to phpbb (to me). Phpbb has a very easy-to-control cPanel, and also, it seems like the SEO of phpbb forums work better than Xenforo ones. That's only my opinion. But I agree that designing on phpbb is a pain in the neck.

Vanilla is very simple to design for. All the CSS classes are pre-defined for you, and they have mobile and embedded skeletons to work off of.

I have been on a few Vanilla forums, but I have never even tried designing Vanilla forums. If the CSS classes are already defined, CSS sounds a lot easier. I should probably try Vanilla out sometime soon.

Ive played around with Vanilla a bit and its quite nice to style. Very nice and easy. However the forum system itself is a bit impractical and kind of annoying.

^Hah, remember when we had Kai on Vanilla for like a week? I think everybody hated it. XD
I don't mess around with other forum software too much outside of Proboards, but I like MyBB. Pretty straight-forward to design.
