So, I'm sure you guys remember me posting those articles about the inquest into my daughter's death. Turns out that the baby-sitter killed her... I sat in a room for 12 hours on Friday, sequestered, not allowed to leave the room except to go to the bathroom, and a few smoke breaks with an officer and the three other people in my group for testimony. A jury found the babysitter responsible for the death of my daughter. An arrest warrant was immediately issued following the proceedings at 10PM on Friday. She was arrested for Homicide by abuse. Of the things I read of her testimony, I'm so unsettled and upset. I stood up for her in court, I stood up for her this whole damn time..
A few things that have me a little baffled....
1) The babysitter testified that she recalled a lot of detailed events from that day, where she found her that morning when I left for work (she lied about that), getting her up at 7:30am to give her her medicine, getting all the kids up later that morning to give them breakfast, putting toys out for them, putting her down for a nap, checking on her, calling ME BEFORE calling 911, doing cpr, etc.
2) I found through testimony of paramedics and police officers, she didn't even seem freaked out or upset when they arrived on the scene.
3) The 911 call was strange... When they instructed her to do CPR she'd have to put the phone down to do it, she didn't there was a moment of silence and there was no sign of her being out of breath like there would be for someone giving cpr. There was no brusing on the chest, or anything on the chest consistent with someone giving her CPR, she never actually did it.
4) When interviewed 1 on 1 by an investigator, the investigator asked her "Did you hurt Ginny?" she replied "If I did I don't remember." Later the investigator told her they thought she smothered her and her response was "If It happened, I don't remember." She was told memory is NOT a defense...
5) She said under oath that my boyfriend and I would go out every weekend and get drunk. (that was a lie anyway) Then her friend testifying on her behalf got on the stand and told them "We went out that weekend, like we do/did every weekend."
Lot's of things don't make a lot of sense for me, and honestly I'm still really in shock, I trusted her, other people trusted her, my kids trusted her. I don't know that I'd ever trust anyone with my kids ever again.
Yesterday was her bond hearing. I was there to represent my daughter, along with my boyfriend, and my friend Samantha. While outside waiting for them to call us in a man walked up to me and said he was from the post and couier (our local paper) asked me how I felt about the events of the previous night and all I said was honestly I'm shocked and told him no other comments. Five minutes later he asked me if he could take a picture of me, I told him no. Her bond is set at 100,000$ and I have no idea when the trial is gonna be. After it was over, As I was walking to my car, a lady from ABC news follows after me yelling Mrs. Stepp, Mrs. Stepp would you like to make a comment on behalf of your daughter? I told her no comment, got in my car, shut the door and was like bitch my name ain't miss stepp. I'm the victims mother, not the killers.
Anyway here is the article about it.
