What made you choose the forum software you are currently using?
Right now I don't have a forum but I was particular to SMF ,Xenforo and Proboards.

I've always used ProBoards because it's what I'm used to. In terms of real forum software, I have liked phpBB ever since I joined Forum Promotion. It's my favorite open source forum software. My favorite paid forum software would probably be XenForo.

Well, vBulletin doesn't exactly make for big competition anymore. A lot of people left them when XenForo came out. IPB is really the closest thing to it. I like IPB, but I like XenForo because while it's still young right now, designers and coders everywhere have been inspired to make things for XenForo.

I have been secretly working on and SMF forum and I have to say I love the ease of everything. From installing themes, mods and the acp.

SMF is just kind of ugly in my opinion. There's something about it that's unattractive no matter what theme is being used. Also, isn't SMF the software that takes forever to get updated?

phpBB3, because I'm experienced with it and know some cool things that can't be done (as far as I know) on other forums.

Installing mods on phpBB is ridiculous. It's time-consuming. I did a bunch of experimenting with phpBB trying to learn how to do things last year when I had planned to leave ProBoards. I never did leave ProBoards, but I learned a few things with phpBB. I did a manual phpBB installation just so I could say I know how to do it, and I learned how to add the "Bubble Ads" thing that Forum Promotion has. I wanted to start a promotion forum on phpBB. I have heard that the phpBB Ultimate Points mod takes hours to install.

I used automod when I installed UP on phpbb. I know what you mean, I have been manually adding mods to a phpbb2 forum. Not fun at all.

I really liked Virtual Forums. It was like proboards but a lot smoother and Ross put most of the simpler codes on there so you don't have to worry about them. The main reason I don't have a vforums right now is because it is like dead there.

I agree, Vforums is very nice but the community is dying out.

Im a huge fan of XenForo. It would have to be the most "up-to-date" software yet. Looks the most modern, is easy to install and customize.. its just good. That is a piece of forum software I would pay money for.

I once made my own Forum Software called jBoards , but never really made it something, so then i let it die. I use to use vForums but I didn't like the design of it so left, now I'm back at ProBoards the design is nice and it's easy to manage.
